“Running is not, as it so often seems, only about what you did in your last race or about how many miles you ran last week. It is, in a much more important way, about community, about appreciating all the miles run by other runners, too.” Richard O’Brien

As BCBP turns 32 years, the South Metro Manila chapters (comprised of Alabang, Las Pinas, Makati, Manila, Paranaque, Pasay) led by its RCD Jun Obra, pioneered the community’s first BE HONEST RUN last March 17, 2012 at the IMAX parking lot, Mall of Asia complex, Pasay City.

The BCBP Fun Run aimed to attract running aficionados to become aware of its Be Honest advocacy, plant the seed of evangelization in the runner’s world, have fun with BCBP community at the same time generate funds for its Be Honest advocacy program and the NAC 32 celebration.

Over 2,000 men and women, young and old from various BCBP chapters, family members, friends, officemates, school groups, fun runners accompanied by the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army/Navy participated in the different Race Categories as follows:

Run Category/Total Registered Runners
500m / 314
3K / 789
5K / 625
10K / 315
15K / 147

Our BCBP National Chairman of the BOT, Bong Pelaez accompanied by his wife Beng and his entire family coming all the way from Cagayan de Oro, also joined the extravaganza. He addressed the runners and agreed that it was indeed a worthwhile, family-oriented, fun and memorable experience for everyone! The Navy contingent (about 30 runners) of Bro. Rex Robles received about 25% of the male and female awards. Medals and Cash Prizes were awarded by BCBP National President, Manny Jimenez to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in both Male and Female categories while medals of completion were also given to all who participated in the 10K and 15K.

BCBP brother Robbot Camarines, wrote, “Congrats for the successful BCBP Fun Run (nice shirts, food, giveaways, safe route.) Truly BCBP is not only taking care of our soul but taking care of our body as well. Truly a wholistic community. My family (5 of us) had great fun last Saturday. Even rewarding for me and my wife, this 1st Fun Run was the fact that all my children were present and joined, from my youngest 8 years – 500M, 2nd son – 3K, my eldest – 5K, both my sister Tess and I ran in 15K. We are looking forward to the 2nd BCBP run next year. Yehey!”

As we look forward to another BE HONEST Fun Run, we would like to encourage our brothers and sisters to keep on supporting our community’s advocacy on its fight for honesty, integrity and truth.

“In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.” -Fred Lebow, New York City Marathon co-founder
