Last May 5, Sunday, members of the Southern Tagalog 2 Region were in their sports attire ready to join its first regional sports fest held at Caltex Golf Club San Pascual Batangas and was hosted by the Batangas Chapter. Aside from the children in tow, almost 205 members from Lipa, Lucena, San Jose Mindoro/ Sablayan, Tanauan /Taal-Lemery, and the host chapter joined the event. It had also become a family bonding and fellowship for the members who graced the event.
The sportsfest started with a mass at 7:00am. Then followed by the torch-lighting ceremony done by no less than RCD Noel Landicho. To begin with, everyone was excited to join the aerobics exercise. You can really feel the energy all around when the members started to raise their hands, stomp their feet and dance to the rhythm. For the not so “sportsminded” members, parlor games were also available The games that followed were truly exhausting and exciting, The games were as follows; basketball, volleyball, billiards, bowling, golf and darts and obstacle course. The winner of each event brought home a trophy. San Jose Chapter and Sablayan Outreach with its limited players bagged the overall champion title and brought home the biggest trophy and 6 smaller trophies for the categories that they won.
Batangas Chapter made sure that the members need not worry about food. For accessibility, the chapter invited food booths Mc Donalds, Chowking Pepsi and the likes to be available in the venue. The program ended with an awarding ceremony done by the AMD himself, Jun Obra. The region would really want to extend its deepest gratitude to couple Jun and Mina Obra and National PSD Bert Masiclat for gracing the event and making it more meaningful for each and everyone.
1Timothy 4:8 says, “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” The sportsfest is again a proof of how good our God really is for He really puts balance into our life. The Lord wanted all of us to be physically and spiritually fit for His greater honor and glory. Events like these allow members to take a break from the communities’ usual activities. Each one went home renewed, relaxed and strengthened. The next regional sportsfest is already set on May 18, 2014 with Lucena Chapter as its host. Everyone can start practicing now!
