The BCBP Dumaguete South Chapter started the year 2014 with a praise and worship concert for a cause last January 11, 2014 at the Lamberto Macias Sports Center. Entitled “Come, now is the time to Worship”, the concert was conceptualized to raise funds to buy construction materials for the victims of typhoon Yolanda located in the Visayas area. We are aware that there are still people in some areas affected by the typhoon who have not received assistance yet for the restoration of their homes.

Though it rained the whole day, it did not hinder worshipers from coming to the venue and to praise God that night. The crowd actively participated in the praise and worship as the spirit-filled Rev. Fr. Jun Limbaga enthusiastically led the people to worship through songs. The presence of the newly-installed 4th Bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, Most Rev. Bishop Julito B. Cortes added another dimension to the event as he surprised the crowd when he rendered a special song number entitled “Ngayon” popularized by Basil Valdez which he dedicated to the youngsters present during the concert. The message of the song reminds the growing children not to waste and abuse their lives through indulgence in different vices like drug abuse, excessive drinking, smoking, and not to implicate themselves in child trafficking, abortion due to unwanted pregnancies, prostitution, etc.
The gathering was an appropriate time for all Dumagueteños to pray as one during these trying times, where climate change has affected our nation so much resulting in frequent typhoons, floods and earthquakes visiting our country. It is at this time that we have to fervently pray and put our trust in the Lord our God who controls the wind, the rain and other natural phenomenon.
The instrumentalist, lead and backup singers (choir) are members of the BCBP Dumaguete South Chapter Music Ministry who offered their talents in music as a way of thanking the Lord for the gift of the love for music. Volunteer performers from some local schools also offered their talents to make the praise concert a whole lot more beautiful, that the audience were claiming for more. Our worship leader, Fr. Jun Limbaga was so happy that the Concert for a Cause was such a huge success. Let us continue to glorify God through songs of praise and worship.

To God be the glory.
