With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on October 24, 2009, the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) agreed to cooperate with one another and work together in voters’ education and poll watching in areas where BCBP Chapters and Outreaches are located nationwide.

The MOU was signed by BCBP Chairman Bobby Atendido and PPCRV National Chairperson Ambassador Henrietta T. de Villa in the presence of the hundreds of PPCRV volunteers from different parishes, priests, religious congregations, schools, partner organizations and the youth on the occasion of the PPCRV’s 18th anniversary at the Manila Cathedral School, Tayuman, Tondo, Manila. Also present were COMELEC Chairman Jose Melo, Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo, President of the Episcopal Commission on Social Action, Justice and Peace, and PPCRV Board member Jun Catan, of BCBP Manila representing the Brotherhood.

BCBP made its presence felt as members of the Manila, Makati, Greenhills and Las Piñas Chapters came to witness this important event.

An accredited citizen’s arm of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is a national parish-based non-partisan political lay movement that has been working assiduously for Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful elections since its inception in 1991, particularly through voters’ education and poll monitoring.

BCBP’s resolve to actively get involved through this MOU is in line with its on-going national BE HONEST ADVOCACY which it intends to integrate into the conduct of the coming 2010 national elections.

The BCBP has organized a task-force to study the details that will define the specific activities that the BCBP will provide to deliver its share in the 2010 elections. Working directly under the MANCOM, the task force is headed by Bro. Ruel Saniel of BCBP Las Pinas, supported by the Metro Manila Chapter Heads and together with their Programs and Services Directors.

This is a very timely and relevant act of the BCBP national leadership. I hope the content of the MOU and the details of the activities can be cascaded to provincial chapters and outreaches so that we can also take part on it. Does the PPCRV have local representatives in General Santos City? Kindly send us names and contact numbers. Thank you. God bless.
