Not just one but seven straight days of BCBP’s BE HONEST ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN inside one of Cagayan de Oro’s biggest and upscale malls. The campaign kicked off on September 20 and culminated on the 26th.
It was seven non-stop days of bringing and resonating BCBP’s advocacy to a bigger and wider marketplace in PARTNERSHIP with AYALA CENTRIO MALL. And it was 4 major activities in one big event inside one big venue: A BCBP Mural Painting, a Painting Contest, a Be Honest Store and an Oratorical Contest.
The activity started on September 20 with a launching program and the unveiling of the BCBP Mural Painting at the Parking Area of the Ayala Mall. It was attended by BCBP leaders and the executives of Centrio Mall.
The opening of the Be Honest store followed. A first honesty store inside a Cagayan de Oro mall and the whole country perhaps. Past BOT Chair Bong Pelaez and Incoming AMD Dondi Roa were there to cut the ceremonial ribbon. People came to purchase from a self-service store where no one was around to assist customers. A buyer picks an item and places payment in an attached envelope and put it in a payment box. Many mall goers, a lot of them children, patronized the store. Some came out of curiosity, others to see the variety of merchandise on display. The store ran for the straight one week duration, and it certainly lit a fire on the virtue of honesty. People were reminded, cautioned, and allowed to experience how to be honest, that it is possible to have a store without people tending on it if one is being honest. The week – long sales outcome was great.
Another event on the first day was the Be Honest Painting Contest participated in by 9 contestants from various junior high schools in the city. The output was remarkable. The nine paintings were put on display for the whole week and auctioned for sale. People came to see and voted for their favorite piece. A Be Honest Lounge was also set-up where the BCBP CDO West brothers and sisters mingled with each other and manned the Ayala ground bridge where the paintings were displayed. BCBP Breakfast Invitation Letters were also personally given by members to selected friends and business associates who happened to pass by the lounge.
The closing program was held on September 26, 2017. This was highlighted by the Be Honest Oratorical Contest participated in by nine (9) Grade 6 pupils from private elementary schools. BCBP Board of Trustee Chairperson, Bro Roy Calleja graced the said affair with him sitting as one of the judges. He shared that this activity is a good training ground for these young children participants, likening them to a lighthouse that will light up the world. The contest increased the level of awareness among the participants on the importance of honesty. The winners were: First Place – ANNA MARIA D. ATIENZA of Corpus Christi School; Second Place – NATHAN COLE B. SAAVEDRA of Oro Grace Christian School and Third Place – DAN NARCISO B. REYES IV of St. Mary’s School.
Winners of the Be Honest Painting Contest are as follows: Grand Winner: PICOS BILL S. LICALAN of Lapasan National High School; First Runner – Up : NEIL ROMERO of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School; Second Runner –Up: ROTHIE A. FEPINO of Liceo de Cagayan University; Peoples” Choice Award: JULES MIGUEL G. BAJAO of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School
The winners brought home cash prizes: P10,000.00, P 5,000, and P3,000 for the champion, 1st runner –up and second runner – up respectively plus gift items from sponsors for both contests. The non-winners also received a consolation prize of P500.00 worth of gift certificates and other stuff.
It was indeed a successful one-week advocacy campaign, bringing people together to Ayala Centrio Mall to watch painting exhibits, mural, purchase in the Be Honest store and listen to the speeches of young people all toward a common goal of promoting Honesty.
This event was made possible by BCBP CDO West Program and Services Director (PSD) and Incoming Chapter Head Bert and Sis Tess Acut as the Over-all Chair. They were ably assisted by the following Working Committee Heads: Bro Bo T. Daclan, for the Mural and Poster Making Contest; Sis Charisse Ch. Fortich, for the Be Honest Store and Sis Malu B. Detablan, for the Oratorical Contest. BCBP CDO West Chapter Head, Bro Jolou Miraflor and Sis Marivic Miraflor were there to lend their support.
Special thanks to all the participants of the Be Honest Painting and Oratorical contests, artists, judges, guests, donors & benefactors, and the BCBP CDO West Chapter Community for the commitment and the enthusiasm to serve.
Mr. Carlitos Oligaria, Centrio’s Marketing officer in his response during the evaluation meeting on October 02 at the Ayala Boardroom, assured BCBP of its continued commitment of support to its Advocacy on Honesty. Looking forward to a bigger BE HONEST WEEK in 2018. And that in all things God will be Glorified.
