Here is an activity that is both fun and educational, designed to increase your group’s knowledge of Bible books, memory verses, Bible personalities, and BCBP songs. Be creative and enjoy!!!

Materials needed: a chalk board, a white board, or a large piece of Manila paper on which is drawn the traditional tic-tac-toe diagram. In each square your AGL or assistant will place the name of one of the books of the Bible or the name of a Bible personality. Each team should have a colorful token representing their team to place on the board when they answer correctly. The board may either be propped on a chair or laid out on the floor in the middle of the group.

Directions: The teams take turns choosing a square and trying to tell one fact about that book or personality. The opposite team has to unanimously agree that it is a correct answer in order for the choosing team to gain control of that square. The team that fills in three blocks horizontally, diagonally, or vertically is the winner.

Variations:

1. Bible Verses: Place the titles of special Bible passages in the squares on the Tic-Tac-Toe board and have the team tell where these verses are found in the Bible, book/chapter/verse, and/or recite the verses indicated. Ex: The Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, The Lord is My Shepherd, Behold I Stand at the Door and Knock, The Great Commandment, The Great Commission, David’s Prayer of Repentance, etc.

2. BCBP Songs: Place the titles of BCBP songs in the squares on the Tic-Tac-Toe board and have the team a) sing the song (w/or w/o songbooks should be decided before the game begins); and/or b) identify the Biblical source of the song.

3. Catholic Culture: In the squares on the Tic-Tac-Toe board place the names of various Catholic practices and beliefs and have the team recite what is indicated. Ex: The Cardinal Sins, The Cardinal Virtues, the Nicene Creed, the Hail, Holy Queen, the Luminous Mysteries, Imposition of Ashes on Ash Wednesday, the “I confess…”, etc.

4. Marian Identification: This requires preparation beforehand. Cut out pictures of the various images of Mary and put one in each square on the Tic-Tac-Toe board. The team must identify and name Mary by the title that the image represents. Ex: Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mary of Fatima, Mother of Perpetual Help, Mary Help of Christians, etc.
