BOT MEETS AT DUKA BAY RESORT
GOD’S LOVE, JOY, AND PEACE AT WORK

By Bong Pelaez, BCBP Cagayan de Oro

May 9-10, 2014 The BEST BOT MEETING AT DUKA BAY RESORT….God’s Love, Joy, and Peace At Work

BACKGROUND

10250230_831803973515683_6634800411618261689_nDuka Bay Resort is a family business owned by my grandparents. Family unity is the guiding business policy. The 500 meters beach front is covered by trees planted in the ’60s giving the necessary shade and haven for lovers before it became a resort. Ten villas on the hillside overlook the Gingoog Bay….Duka is the name of the coastal barrio.

The BEST BOT MEETING

Day 1 (May 9, 4PM at Duka Bay resort)

10154257_831804236848990_1423986100101526612_nThe BOT members were fetched at the Butuan Airport, 80 kilometers away from Duka Bay Resort. BCBP Butuan chapter arranged the vans in going to the resort and the going back to the airport on Sunday.

5:30 – 6:30 PM ACTION GROUP. Our reading – 2nd Timothy 4:1-8…….”I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith…..” The Group Reflection and topic for sharing was “What are the UNFINISHED BUSINESSES we have to fulfill?”

Group 1 & 2 (spouses) – to serve wherever we are needed; project cookbook on Fr. Herb’s great cooking recipes (I pray that this can be realized….ASAP!).
Group 3 & 4 (BOT) – revisit formation/mission; leaders are aging; preserve the BCBP vision/mission; Fr. Herb’s successor???; members’ spirituality; and the passion of old leaders as a good model.

My reflection – our life will always be unfinished and completed only by death. My thoughts on the spiritual dimension…treat each day as if it is the end, the last day of my life.

7:00 – 9:30 PM Dinner and fellowship was in your comfy attire (“tsinelas” is still the best footwear and a pair of “purontong”) so we all felt at home, relaxed and able to better enjoy the food … and eat more.

Day 2 (May 10, 5:30 AM – 11:00 PM)

10369220_831804100182337_1223537442821665260_n5:30 – 10:30 AM – Free time. The early risers (5:30AM) Loy and the Avellana couple (Joey and Lulu) were already swimming before sunrise. One unique feature of the beach is that fresh water springs abound on the ocean floor….the mixture of cold and warm water is a unique experience.

The late risers (7AM) took their time on their room’s deck and gazed at Gingoog Bay …this is a perfect setting for one’s prayer time. One can rejuvenate one’s brain cells by doing nothing.

10:30 – 5:00 the BEST BOT Meeting ……relaxed, productive, and short. BOT Mel with his team – BOT Roy, Treasurer Rey, and Loy, came up with their proposed revision of the 2009 Community Manual….simplified, easy to implement, and in three volumes (BCBP Spirituality, BOT Policies, and ManCom guidelines). This will undergo two more BOT Meetings (July & October) with the outgoing and incoming Board of Trustees doing the fine tuning. Distribution of the revised 2014 Community Manual will be during the National leaders retreat in October.

10358551_831804286848985_6736813505096599581_n5:00 PM to 10PM – Anticipated Mass, Dinner, and Fellowship. The anticipated Mass was celebrated by a Balikbarangay priest, Fr. Paul locally called Fr. Loloy, who was an archdiocesan priest in Sacramento CA for 40 years. Dinner was held on the beach with torches as the backdrop, a real treat for the BOT members and spouses… Songs of the of the 50s and 60s were sung by Fr. Loloy (Wow…pare na, songer pa, plus DJ) and BOT Nelson…

Day 3....Back to our respective places…Home sweet home!

Loy of BCBP National Office took time out to pose with Duka Bay resort staff….
