The BCBP Makati Chapter celebrated their annual Christmas party last Dec. 10, 2016 at the Ricarte Hall, Phil. Army Officer’s Club. Fr. Denis Bulanday, chaplain celebrated Mass after which a simple dinner was served.
For the program, our Family Director Jozef and his lovely wife Mely discerned and “commanded” that our chapter celebrates Christmas more meaningfully by focusing on the reason for the season! Thus, each unit was assigned and challenged to tell the greatest story ever told, that is,some parts of the Bible signifying important events in our Salvation history!
The Unit of Bernard & Essa Dy started with the story of Creation, unfolding the divine drama of God as the great Author, Writer, and Director. As each day was recalled, we uncovered what His power looks like and marveled at the mighty deeds he has done.
The book of Genesis continued and introduced a man named Abraham. Together with his barren wife Sarah, Abraham was old and gray when he was told by God that he will be the father of countless descendants and many nations. The Unit of Eric & Karen Tinio movingly portrayed the faithfulness and obedience of Abraham as he willingly sacrificed (well almost!) his 1st born son, Isaac. This is our father Abraham – a man of faith and with complete obedience to God.
The single men and ladies under Nolan Llanora and Apil Benitez, respectively, were tasked to portray one of the, if not the most spectacular event in the Bible. When Moses raised his hand over the sea the Lord opened up a path allowing the people to walk through the sea on dry ground and leaving the entire army of the Pharaoh dead. The unit members beautifully sang, “Christmas Shines” to remind us that our God, our Protector, will put the fire in our hearts, love in our lives and hope in our eyes!
Lastly, the Unit of Jay and Ruby Dejaresco dramatized the role of Isaiah, one of the most popular prophets of the Old Testament who proclaimed a message of repentance from sin, hopeful expectation of God’s deliverance and the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ! And what a moving ending when all members of the unit, burst into dancing and singing ..because it was for us that Christ is born!
Congratulations to the Dejaresco Unit who came out the grand slam winners, receiving prizes for all categories – most number of participation from Unit, costume, authenticity of presentation of the Bible story and overall creativity and impact!
The program emcees, Danny Silbor and Beth Ginete thanked all units and members (PSD Rey Kangleon; Music Min Head Cheng/Lucy Legaspi; Liturgical Head Johnny/Ising Taroy) who have contributed to make this a unique & memorable celebration for those who came! Our National President Joey Avellana made special mention about the beautiful program and congratulated the chapter for such a “different” way of celebrating this year! Joey encouraged us all the more to continue to bring the joy, love and peace we receive from Jesus to others. Isn’t that what the coming of Christ is all about?
The evening was capped with more singing and dancing, celebrating the goodness and presence of brothers and sisters in community! Without a doubt, everyone went home with joy, a song and a smile in their heart! –By Beth Ginete, BCBP Makati
