SALT AND LIGHT

by BCBP Editor

An often quoted scripture is this passage in Matthew’s Sermon on the Mount where Jesus compares our role in our communities to salt and light. Read and reflect on Matthew 5:13-16.

Discussion Starters:

1. Salt purifies, preserves and flavors. How are these three functions of salt applicable to us today as believers in Christ?

2. What does Jesus imply is necessary for our light to be effective in the world today?

3. How do you feel about your current lifestyle in comparison to salt and light? Explain your answer.

4. Peter wrote to some people of God who lived in a hostile culture about how to live effectively among unbelievers in the world. Read and reflect on 1 Peter 2:11-12. Share about your insights.

5. What are two or three small steps you can take this week to act as salt or light in your community? In your family? In the BCBP?
