May 1 was a perfect day to bring one’s family down to the beaches or resorts or just while away the time at home for a much needed rest. But for the leaders of Southern Tagalog (STR) 1, it was a ‘service-as-usual’ day with the holding of the regional BCBP Community Manual Training.
A total of 126 action group leaders, unit leaders, ministry heads, and governance members actively participated in the whole-day activity held at San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp. Center for People Development, Canlubang Industrial Park. All chapters and outreaches are required to cascade the contents of the BCBP Community Manual for clearer understanding and better appreciation, and subsequent, internalization of the entire BCBP membership.
The first community manual cascading in STR1 was conducted in 2009 in Tagaytay City. For this year, the Biñan-San Pedro Chapter headed by its Chapter Head (CH) Bro. Alex Madrid graciously hosted the event. This regional activity was an initiative of STR 1 Regional Council Director (RCD) Bro. Joffe Almoro, who oversees chapters comprising Biñan-San Pedro, Calamba, Gen. Trias, Imus, and San Pablo chapters, and Los Baños, Sta. Rosa, and Trece Martirez outreaches.
A day before the said activity, two of the four air-conditioning units in the hall broke down. With the seething summer heat, this irregularity could have posted a serious concern. But despite the slight discomfort, the participants remained all ears to the speakers namely, Bro. Vic Longno, Bro. Joffe Almoro, Bro. Angel Sabas, Bro. Mel Rebutica, Bro. Bunny Joven and Bro. Alex.
