Living in the Spirit presupposes that we know who the Spirit is and how He should affect our lives to enable us to live as authentic Christians in our respective corners of the world. This Bible Sharing Guide helps us better understand how the Holy Spirit can help us transform our lives.

“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.” John 14:26

The Spirit of God knows the things of God because he is one with God. – Matthew Henry

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are habits that God infuses in man to dispose man to obey readily the inspirations or promptings of the Holy Spirit. – St. Thomas Aquinas

–Do you agree or disagree with the above reflection statements? Why or why not?

Discussion Starters:

1. We receive the Holy Spirit through the baptism of water and the laying on of hands (the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation). We can also receive a renewal of the powers of the Holy Spirit through the charismatic rite called “baptism or renewal in the Spirit”. If you have undergone this experience, share how you felt upon being renewed in the Spirit. What effects did this “renewal in the Spirit” have on your life?

2. The presence of the Holy Spirit brings unity. Discuss the presence and workings of the Holy Spirit in the Ecumenical Movement going on today.

3. How does the Holy Spirit work in and through us as Christians?

4. Share an experience you’ve had wherein the Holy Spirit gave you victory over the dark forces of the world or over your human nature.

5. How is the Holy Spirit moving in the Church today?

6. Christian maturity is developed as a result of yielding more and more to the working of the Spirit. Share how you can more fully yield your life to the Spirit’s control.
