Last July 10, 2010, the San Pablo Chapter was heralded as the 65th chapter of the entire BCBP Community in a grandiose but spirit-filled celebration held in Coco Palace Hotel, San Pablo City, Laguna. No less than the BCBP President Larry Veloso administered the installation, supported by Manny Jimenez, AMD for Southern Tagalog (ST) and Joff Almoro, RCD of ST 1. Along with the installation, the Governance Team of the chapter was also instituted, with Vic Longno taking the helm, together with members of his support team: Obet Guia (Mission Director); Rey San Buenaventura (Formation Director); Fred Alban (Programs and Services Director); Jake Quintillano (Treasurer); and Cris Elpides and Oca Villavicencio (Unit Leaders).

A Eucharistic Celebration by Rev. Fr. Jerry Gaela, San Pablo Chapter’s Chaplain/Spiritual Director, was the first order of the day. After the formal rites, the brothers and sisters were treated to a sumptuous dinner and a showcase of talents from among the members of the chapter, the youths of San Pablo and Calamba, and some members of the Calamba Chapter. Program emcees were Oca Villavicencio, Cris Elpedes, and Guen Evasco.

Manila Chapter was the first to sow the BCBP seed in this quaint city of San Pablo in the year 2000. Later on, the Calamba Chapter carried over the task of growing the outreach to the full-fledged chapter that it is now. Taking inspiration from Philippians 1:6, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ,” the San Pablo Chapter has now indeed completed its initial phase and is ready to venture into a more mature stage in its community life.

Particular individuals have been helpful in this journey: Jun and Nancy Catan and Francis and Edel Mapile, who were then the Chapter Head and Mission Director of the Manila Chapter, respectively; and Manny Cosico of BCBP Calamba who served as San Pablo Outreach Head, 2005-2008.   News and pictures submitted by Bernadette Joven, BCBP Calamba
