MANILA, Sept. 1, 2015— Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has renewed the call for radical changes in attitudes towards environment by thinking about the country’s poor.
As the Archdiocese of Manila opens today this year’s Season of Creation, the cardinal said it is time to “listen to the cries of the poor and the groaning of the earth.”
He called on all people to be better stewards of the creation for the future generation.
Echoing Pope Francis’ call for “ecological conversion,” Tagle also called for a stop to the greed of businesses which benefits only a few and lays great burdens on the poor.
The “throwaway culture” that Pope Francis pointed to, must be replaced by a “save mentality”, Tagle added.
The country’s dioceses also held Masses today as they join World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation declared by the Pope.
He proposed simple simple acts of education and spirituality such as: avoid having “a throw-away” attitude propelled by materialism, and a “throw everywhere habit” that produces mountains of garbage. (CBCP News)
